This policy explains what information cinemilitary.com collects when you visit, why, who else receives it, and the choices you have. CineMilitary is a one-person research and writing project about military history and the true events behind war films. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean CineMilitary.
The short version
- You can read the whole site without an account. There is no sign-up, no newsletter form, and no comment form for visitors.
- We use Google Analytics to see which articles people read and how they find them.
- We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to choose which ads you see.
- Some articles embed YouTube videos, which are served by YouTube.
- If you email us, we see your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information collected automatically
Server and security logs
Like almost every website, our servers record basic technical details for each request: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. The site is hosted by Hostinger and delivered through Cloudflare, which uses this data to keep the site running and to block attacks and abusive traffic. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to identify you.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, how long people stay, what device and country visits come from, and which search or social link brought them here. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) and collects your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 does not log or store. We keep analytics data for 14 months. We see this information only as aggregated reports, not as a profile of any one person.

Advertising (Google AdSense)
The site is supported by ads served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu. If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be based on the page you are reading rather than your browsing history.
Embedded YouTube videos
Many articles include a video from the CineMilitary YouTube channel. These players are loaded from YouTube, which is owned by Google. YouTube may set cookies and collect information about your device and viewing, under Google’s Privacy Policy, especially when you press play or are signed in to a Google account.
Links to other sites
Articles link to sources such as archives, museums, Find a Grave, and our pages on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we have no control over what they collect once you leave cinemilitary.com.
Information you choose to send us
If you email [email protected] with a correction, source, or question, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message. We use this only to reply and to check and fix the article. We keep messages as long as they are useful for that purpose, and we will delete them on request.
Cookies and consent
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site itself does not need cookies to work. The cookies used here come from Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and YouTube, as described above.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time from the privacy settings link shown with that message. Anywhere in the world, you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading any article.
How we use the information
- To run the site and protect it from attacks and spam.
- To understand which articles are useful so we know what to research and write next.
- To show ads that pay for hosting and research costs.
- To answer your messages and correct errors you report.
For visitors in the EEA and UK, the legal bases are consent (for analytics and advertising cookies where required), our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, and, for emails, your request that we reply.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not run user accounts, most data about your visit is held by Google, and you can manage it through your Google account and the links above. For anything we hold directly, such as your emails, write to [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
California residents: we do not sell personal information for money. Personalized advertising through Google may count as “sharing” under California law, and you can opt out of it using Google Ads Settings or your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal.
Where data is processed
Our hosting, Cloudflare, and Google may process data in the United States and other countries. Google and Cloudflare use recognized safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for transfers out of Europe.
Children
This site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we add a new service that collects data, or change how existing ones are used, we will update this page and the date at the top.
